What does your house say about you?

I recently read an article about how your house is your autobiography.  Is it chaotic, clean, colorful, simple?  Whatever it is, it tells your story.  Where you have been, what you like, your style.

A couple weeks ago I was at one of my good friends house helping her get ready for girls night.  She pulled out some plates and said, “look how ugly these are.  My mom bought them at the grocery store when I went to college and we still eat on them every night.  When I got married I HAD to have the china so I didn’t get any regular dinner dishes and we have just used these.”

I took a look at the ugly brown dishes with a big floral mess in the center.  I laughed and told her that I am just the opposite.  I didn’t register for any china.  It doesn’t fit my lifestyle.  I had and will always have, big dogs.  With big dog tails.  Plus I am not the most graceful girl.  Factor in three boys and you can see how china just doesn’t fit into the picture.  Besides, it’s just not me.  For things to survive in this house they must be practical, dishwasher safe, and fun.

So….. I got Fiesta Ware.

and we use it every day, for normal occasions, for special occasions.  It is sturdy, colorful, and fun.

My friend looked at me and said, “yeah, I see that that about you, you are a fiesta ware kind of girl.”  Just like she is a formal dinner party with the good china kind of girl.

What does your house say about you?

hmmm…that i’m overwhelmed by the chaos in my house? I want to decorate, but play it safe. I’m a colorful kind of gal, but my hubby likes neutrals? 😆 i can’t do pets b/c it would just be too much??

I am like you. I will always have BIG dogs, a house with warm, vintage-type quilts and LOTS of fiestaware. we have 18 place settings and counting. have you seen their NEW color that is out? when will they ever bring the old-school ivory back?

Ha Ha. I too am a Fiesta girl. Just a question for you… do you have just one color of plate or do you have an assortment? We have all of the colors of plates, cups, saucers, bowls, salad plates, etc. I couldn’t decide so I just didn’t! Sometimes I wish for a table with less ‘splash’, but maybe our house is saying we are just ‘splashy’? LOL. Thanks for post.

my house says that I’m currently in the process of getting ready to move!! wah!! we’re giving up our beautiful 50 year old magic cottage to move to a brand new house in a big city. i’m making a list of all the ways I can keep the “cottage” feel in the brand new house. I think some Fiesta Ware is in order. A red pitcher in the middle of my new IKEA kitchen table should do it, huh? 😉

mmm. Crockery… I try and stick to 2 colours. White and green. I chose green because it is the one colour with the most variation. So for now I’m liking aquas, sage and jasmine shades of greens…one day I might be more bold and go for a brighter green or a deep turquoise..Either way I will be able to mix and match. If I break a plate, then I can can comibine the 2 basic colours. Life is too short to keep the silver and good crockery only for special occasions. If a friend comes over for morning tea…use it. If you love it and appreciate it, USE IT!

My house. I keep it simple, but love to mix and match styles and colours. We sit in the formal lounge when we can and eat in the fomal dining room when we can…or should I say when there is no sewing mess in there! But there is nothing formal about it.
