Holiday Spirit

Posted on Sunday, December 10th, 2006 at 8:06 pm

I am lacking it right about now. Usually I am all over Christmas, the tree, the lights, the festivities.  But this year we will be lucky to get our tree up by the 25th and my enthusiasm just isn’t there.  Could be that I have had tooth pain for the last four weeks with my new crown and now it is looking like a root canal.  Then there is the sick kiddo issue.  After our round of strep we are now dealing with some weird virus that took Blake out of school and has given Cole a fever and cough he can’t shake.  Today I took him to urgent care where they said he had a fever of 103.8 and his lungs sounded crackly.  So after spending half the day there and getting two x-rays I learned that he has a virus.  Sigh.  Everyone is tired and grumpy.  I found Cole asleep in a chair, Gameboy still on.

I am so sorry about the illnesses that have emerged during this holiday season. Don’t worry about the decorations, just take care of yourselves. I’ve been feeling horrid that only a wreath is on our front door and a neighbor helped my husband put up our tree (it’s not decorated yet). I just had knee-replacement surgery and can bearly walk, much less decorate. So, I decided to try not to feel guilty about decorations but work towards full recovery. Isn’t the holiday also about mindfulness? Then we all need to be mindful of our limitations and remember that holiday spirit towards ourselves and others is really the best gift and decoration we can create. Many good thoughts go to your family at this difficult time.

I hear you on the sick thing. Croup has been going around our house and inbetween the kids getting it one after the other (except our amazingly healthy oldest) my cold went from virus right into sinus infection, so yeah drugs! Just get as much rest as possible, enjoy the season as you can, don’t stress.

I am sending some virtual chicken soup your way. Hang in there, all these winter illnesses will pass. That pillow looks so squishy and comfy, perfect for a wee boy to pass out on.

So I don’t even know how I learned of you and your bags, but your blog hooked me. I am a mom of 4 — 3 and a half year old twins and 10 month old twins and so many days when I pop into your blog, I can relate. I’ve started to write you probably 4 times and then always abandon it for some reason or another. Anyway, thanks for blogging and making me smile with your candid thoughts and emotions. You brighten my day, often!!
