2007- the year of the REMODEL

And it starts tomorrow!!!

After going round and round and looking at houses for sale- we have decided to stay put. The market isn’t great to try to sell a house and the idea of moving right now (even a couple of streets over) just isn’t appealing to any of us.

Being avid DIYers it is has always been hard for us to turn over design and remodel control but the time has come. I am tired of living like I did in college. So we are starting slow. We found a guy that has been doing work on our friend’s house and got on his list and now it is our turn. Tomorrow he starts our basement. Our basement has a concrete floor and cinderblock walls. When we moved in it had panel over the cinderblock. We tore that off and now he is going to come in and frame it up and give us REAL WALLS, new windows, and new floor. The kids are so excited because it is their space. I am excited because all the video games and screaming gangs of boys that hang here will be confined to the lower level.

I have a very long list of things that this house needs in order to make it comfortable for us long term. A lot of it is simply cosmetic. Like the front porch. I think that will be next. Then we move into bigger projects like an addition- we need a family room in the back. Then I need a better bathroom- the only tub in this house is in the boys bathroom. Needless to say that doesn’t appeal to me a whole lot. I need my own tub. Our master bath is going to have to be reworked. Our kitchen is going to flip-flop spaces with the dining room. Then there is our screened-in porch that needs to be rebuilt. The list just keeps going and going.

I guess the only way to get everything you want is to build new. When you have an older house it seems there is so much to do just to keep it livable.

And some website news….

We are in the process of changing things up a bit so stick with me while we get things worked out. I have an awesome new bag to show but my little photography studio in the basement is being dismantled while the work goes on down there. We are hoping that our new website will make it easier for us to keep up with discontinued fabrics, inventory, and make it easier to shop for you.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Having built new twice now, i can say you STILL don’t get everything you want, unless you do custom and that of course is lots of moolah, plus you have to put in all the landscaping and in my area–sprinkler lines. for some reason my MIL convinces my dh that we can dig our own trenches. i’ll just say NEVER AGAIN. I think you’re on the right track. If you have the space then an addition would be great! Good luck with the basement, i think it will turn out wonderfully–and they don’t take too much time. Happy New Year
