Summer Craziness

c

It has begun.  It started earlier this week with the end of preschool for Cole.  For this year anyway.  A party that included a picnic on the Village Green with hotdogs, face painting, flower planting, and ending up with singing in the chapel.

Cole’s little buddy looked pretty cute in his hat

Both boys were a little grumpy, it was hot and they were tired.  It’s hard being three and four.

For Mother’s Day I got a small digital camera that has become a life saver.  I often didn’t want to haul around my big digital rebel so this tiny camera saves the day.  It fits in my pocket.

My boys have loved photography forever and they love to take picture with the small camera.  Much easier for smaller hands.  Blake took this one of Austin and I on the hammock.

I am hoping it’s an optical illusion and that my thighs really aren’t that big but just in case I am skipping lunch today.

Austin took this picture of his crazy dog

wild dog

Love it.  She looks like mad dog.  Like mad crazy.  See our old dog Astro, all he has to do is raise his lip, doesn’t have to make a peep, and she hightails it in the other direction.  He is so old.  We found him on the streets of Austin when he was about 8 months old and he has been such a good dog, we think he is half coyote.  My neighbors are amazed at how agile he still is, we think one day he will just drop.

Speaking of dogs, my dogs have been doing crazy things lately.  Yesterday out contractor came out to stake off where the addition is to go and we laughed about how the little pink flags wouldn’t last more than 5 minutes with Cole around.  But it wasn’t Cole.  It was Shiloh that pulled them all out of the ground.  Then Austin informed me that Barley, our huge Golden has been laying in the hammock.  I have yet to see it, how she gets in there without tipping and landing on her head….I hope I have my camera nearby.

June is a crazy month for us but I absolutely love it.  End of the school year, Supergames, end of the year parties, and 3, count em’ THREE birthdays for three little boys I know and love.  First one is the middle child, 2nd one is the baby, and the third is 1st.  Confused?  I am so excited because this year Austin is turning 10.  Ten is such a great age and such a big big birthday.  I was SOOO excited when I turned 10.  Double Digits!.  AND, in honor of his tenth birthday- Austin is going to get to celebrate it in Austin!  He has been wanting to check out the city that he was named after for a long time.  The last time he was there was before we had Cole so it has been a while.  We didn’t think we were going to be able to make “cousin camp” this year.  Andy is so busy at work he just didn’t think he could take a week off at this point but the more we thought about it, the more we realized that we all needed a break.  SO we are off to Texas for a week at the beach with my two sister-in-laws and their families and my mother and father in-law, with a few days in Austin tacked onto the end.

And here are the sites we plan to see with the birthday boy

Chuys, the place were Andy and I worked while in college and where we met.

Trudys, more good tex-mex food.  We ate countless black bean tacos there.

Mt Bonnell– where Andy proposed to me

Barton Springs– we got our old Lab Bailey (now deceased) in the parking lot of Barton Springs.  A man and woman were giving them away out of the back of their station wagon.

Congress Ave Bats– ok this sounds really creepy but it is actually very very cool.  People bring picnics every night to sit on the shore of the Colorado River to watch the bats fly out from under the Congress bridge.  They all come out at once and it is amazing.  The boys are going to LOVE this.

Lake Travis– spent many hours swimming in this lake

Hula Hut– one of the many cool places to eat on the lake

University of Texas– where Andy and I went to school and where Austin says he will wear a Buckeye shirt when he visits

And if we ever go and have the time…..

tubing– in San Marcos, so much fun

River Walk– San Antonio is probably one of the biggest under-rated cities.  It is so pretty there.

Have a great weekend!

A Buckeye shirt in Longhorn territory – shame, shame! Surely there is still a little burnt orange blood in the boy. At the beach we will have to do some major realignment of his thinking before you’all head back to Austin. We’ll give controls of that assignment to his still-loyal Longhorn sister.

Yes you would think he would have a little more respect for the burnt orange. Maybe we will teach him how to do “hook em’ horns” before he goes.

ummm….is that my bag on your little shoulder, MissE??!!! LOL

I also just picked myself up a tiny little camera. I love it. I used it today at school to take pictures of the kids blowing gum bubbles. I wouldn’t have gotten the chance otherwise! I love having a small digital!

e! we have just returned from a week in texas! and YES, our few days in austin were at the front of our trip making it the main “pleasure” of our road trip – wahoooo! we visited many of our old haunts too – sounds like a familiar song! it was a shocker to see the changes in austin but we managed to find the more familiar places that we loved and adored when we lived there. it’s hard to believe we’ve only been gone five years – ack! hope your travels are/were great! cheers, rach
