Tomatillos

My friend Julie gave me this little basket of tomatillos that her husband grew in their backyard.  She wasn’t sure what to do with them.  We love tomatillos and when we moved up here from Texas we had the hardest time finding them.  Everytime I buy them at the store, someone nearby always asks me “what do you make with those??”

Well the answer is verde sauce.  I have yet to find a perfect recipe so I am always experimenting.  When I have one I will share.  Of course it may be years because I just don’t cook very often.  Andy seems to think we will cook more when we get our new kitchen.  I think HE may cook more.  He actually likes to cook.  I just like to eat.

So I snapped some pictures and thought it would make a good blog post as I am sure that most of you are getting a little tired of remodeling posts.  But right after I snapped this picture the tornado sirens started going off.  Cole and I were the only ones home and he was busy building a big monkey out of Legos.  I flipped on the tv to see what was up and saw that we were right in line to be hit by a big storm that was producing tornados.  The rest of the clan comes bursting into the house and we head to the basement and camp out for 15 minutes or so when we realize that the storm is passing a few miles south of us and we were fine.  But by that time I was starving and just wanted to eat and not document or take pictures.

Which means we are  back to remodeling pictures.

The dogs keep going to the back door to get in but there is a big hole there now.  They just sit there and stare into the house.

Austin wanted to see what would happen if he opened the door and called them, I vetoed this idea because the last thing we need is major vet bills when they fall in the hole and break a leg, or two.

Austin is off to football practice and then to the ice cream social at school where he gets to meet his new 4th grade teacher, Blake gets to meet his 2nd grade teacher, and Cole gets to eat ice cream and run around like a crazy man.  School starts in 2 days which is bitter-sweet.  I am going to miss them all day but I am not going to miss the fighting!  A little sad that summer is wrapping up and sports are starting.  One in football and two in soccer, yes Cole is starting soccer this year which will be so fun to watch.  Can’t wait.

I am really ready for fall though, it seems that every time I start getting tired of a season it is time to move on to the next one.
