The trim was just delivered. They set up this big funky “trim holder” to hold it all.

And behind the trim you can see the new window seats that Andy built over the weekend. Living in a “not so big house” you have to be clever with storage solutions and that means lots and lots of built-ins to hide all your stuff. In this case the electronics that I don’t want to see.

So these benches will have flip up lids but will also have doors in the front. All to cover the big speakers and surround sound equipment that he had to have with his ginormous tv (which will go over the fireplace). Men and their toys. As long as it is hidden and I get to cover the benches with lots of cool pillows in fun fabrics of course.
Cole pointed out that they are also the perfect size for a little boy

Have you seen this?
As I was folding laundry Saturday night on my bed and flipping through channels I stumbled on this interview on Access Hollywood. I usually try to stay away from news stories like this because they make me so incredibly sad but pretending it isn’t there doesn’t make the cruelty stop. Bravo to this young 18 year old for having the guts to get out there and raise awareness on this horrid practice.
It’s hard to be an animal lover. I am fully aware of the eye rolling that goes on behind my back from family and friends. And just as people don’t understand why it upsets me so much, I cannot even begin to contemplate how people can think it is ok. Because it’s not.
Off my soapbox, at least for today-

Lots of stuff going on today, in-laws made it in from Tejas in one piece, kitchen progress, spending a bit of time with my next door neighbor Kitty Jo who just lost her dear husband Rex. Cole is sick, hit the bead show that comes around twice a year. Dinner at Buca topped off with dessert at Graeter’s Ice Cream for some seasonal pumpkin and cinnamon favorites - whew, I’m pooped. It’s a nice warm bath in the big new tub and I’m off to curl up with a book.
For those of you following along the crazy remodel of a family with 3 young boys and now 4! crazy dogs, here are some pics. Oh and check out the cool new kitchen island that I picked up at Crate and Barrel yesterday. Love it!

That’s what I am. A couple weeks ago I popped in a pet store to pick up some toys for Shiloh and I came out with this

A little 4 month old Silky Terrier. A Silky is pretty much the same thing as a Yorkie only a bit sturdier. Apparently she had been there a while, needed a home- and we all know I have issues with dogs that need homes. Sigh. Austin and I brought her home- convinced we couldn’t just leave her there in that tiny cage, knowing someone would want her if we decided not to keep her. Sure enough I had three offers to take her off our hands the very first day.
She is 7 lbs now (supposed to top out at 10 lbs.), has no fur (only hair) so she doesn’t shed. She is so good, sleeps in her crate all night without making a peep- our first dog to do that! So while I never thought I would own a small dog (especially one with a bow in her hair) I must admit it is nice to have a little lapdog to keep me warm and snuggle up while I am reading a book. A 90 lb. Golden Retriever can’t do that, although she tries.
A picture of Austin on the phone with Andy, breaking the news (he was in Boston- I know, we are soooo bad).

and the beauty of email and the internet I was able to send him this picture while they were still on the phone. He approved.
And look who loves her

These two love to play- although Shiloh always pulls the bows out of her hair. We can’t figure out if she is jealous that she can’t wear bows in her own hair or if she thinks hair bows on dogs are dumb. Probably a combo of both.
I love the reverse highlights look she has going on. Makes her look like a little punk rock dog.
I named her Zoey, and she is staying- sleeping on my lap as I type.

I have been hording this fabric for close to 6 months now. When I first got it I felt very possessive of it and have only made one bag out of it for a friend. I stare at it a lot. Imagining all the things I would do with it, where I would put it my house.

Green Velvet had some cool chairs that were recovered in the pink colorway. I think Amy did them a while back before she had so much going on. I probably should have bought them.

But I am starting to feel like I should share the love.
Look for bags out of this fabulous fabric early next year.
And if you want to see more of Amy check out the new Blueprint Magazine, and get a peek into her house.

Since Andy was out of town all last week he promised the boys to take them to a movie this weekend. Of course it is now almost 4:30 on Sunday and they are ready to roll. But Andy isn’t.
When we budgeted our project we didn’t include our boys boys bathroom, with the idea that we would do it ourselves. Always good intentions I guess but I am so tired of doing projects ourselves. We have been working on houses for way too many years and I need a house that is done. Our kids need a house that is done. They hate it when Andy is busy doing work on the house, it is bad enough that he works a lot anyway- to have his home time eaten up by household stuff really stinks.
Of course I am the one that imposed the new boys bathroom deadline. My in-laws are coming up this weekend from Texas (yay!) and there is just no way that 7 people can use one tiny bathroom. The boys bathroom at least needs a toilet, and maybe a sink. But of course first it has to have a floor.

Sigh, I am so ready to call up Extreme Home Makeover people to come finish my house in a week. Now that the weather is a bit chillier and we are all inside the boys are fighting and driving each other (and me) crazy. Really, how long can 5 people live out of two rooms. I realized today that there is just no place to relax. It’s a constant state of un-relaxfulness. My biggest complaint has always been the dust, it is everywhere I wipe it off every day and it come back every day. But now I am just tired. Tired of people in my house, tired of dirt, tired of my stuff piled everywhere because there is no place to put anything, tired of walking through plastic, tired of a grumpy family, not being able to cook, not having a sink, tired of not having a home and/or a normal life.
I am not complaining- really I’m not. Look at my beautiful new shower

And the deck off my master bedroom

All good, just getting seriously worried we won’t be wrapping this up before it’s time to decorate for Christmas. My friend looked around my house today and said, “well I’m not going to say that there is absolutely no way they will finish this in the next 4-5 weeks because I am just too good of a friend but…..”

I have been building up a decent stash of ready-made bags to put up on the site for the holiday season. I haven’t put them up because I was waiting on a new light box so I can take decent pictures. Prior to construction I had a little area where I had all my lights and such set up but it got trashed pretty quick and all the bulbs are now missing from my clip on lights- hate that- I am sure the workers put them to good use somewhere but I don’t need special expensive photo bulbs in the attic- ya know?
Andy has been building me a new portable light box which is almost done, I think. I am trying to get the website stocked up for the holidays.
I am also trying to stock up for a local show that I am doing for a friend. I usually shy away from doing these type of things but this one seems like it will be fun with lots of fun goods. Plan to do some shopping myself.
After the first of the year we will go back to having a “design your own” feature on the site. I considered pulling it down and doing only ready-mades but I have had so many requests to put it back up so that is the way we will go.
Have a great weekend

Halloween is one of my most favorite holidays but this one has been a little tough, I couldn’t decorate the house at all because of the construction, I have been solo- parenting most of the week. Trying to be here and there and keep it all together. Feeling a little tired as I still have one more day to go.
But I made it to all the parties, all the parades, and the tick or treating went off without a hitch- I even got to hang on my new (but not completed) front porch with friends last night to hand out candy.

Every year we get pizza with our neighbors to make sure that the kids actually eat something before all the candy.
