Today Canada plays the USA in the World Hockey Championship. The Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock is the coach for Team Canada. 3 of our players are on the the team- Rick Nash, Pazzy, and Jason Chimera (whom I just recently ran into at Pottery Barn of all places)
Guess who I am rooting for?

photo courtesy of the AP- Nash last year when he won MVP
Last game (Sunday) against Latvia Nash scored two goals and Pazzy had a shut-out.
Go Canada.

All three of my boys love dogs, but one of them likes them a little more than the other two. One of them will take them out to play, always wants to have one around. I would almost go as far to say that he likes dogs as much as I do.
Some shots from the backyard

We laugh at this dog because she has the skinniest legs but can jump so high

Zoey can’t jump quite as high, her legs are so short!

She is his favorite. She has been sleeping in his bed every night.

She was fired-up and wanted to play catch. Squirming around like crazy. Love the joy on his face.
Cole was stamping everyone with this smiley face

Lots and lots of play

How cute is this little dog??

Barley and I are both highly allergic to all things green and flowery. Of course it doesn’t stop me from rolling in the grass with the dogs and kids. Today I am paying the price. This year the flowering trees looked amazing- but wow have they been bad for the allergies. There has been a yellow dust on everything for weeks now. Every time I clean it up off the outdoor furniture and porch it comes right back. aaah-chooo!

Getting ready to head out the door for the big Police concert tonight- taking advantage of the night out to include dinner in German Village sans kiddos.

Friday night was the carnival at the school. Always a jam packed deal- lots of games, lots of sugar. You get the idea.
I took a break with Cole and his buddy Nate to get some Graeters.

We watched the band play- this is the boys Principal, he rocks.

as you can see I am hopelessly addicted to texture on the pics these days

Afterwards we went to a friends house so the kids could play flash-light tag and we could de-carnivalize

Some of the boys were still pretty pumped up-
Saturday the soccer games were canceled because of rain- yay!
Saturday night Andy took Austin to a Destroyers game.
He was so pumped to meet Mike Vrabel, a former Buckeye that now plays for the Patriots.

who was there with some other former Buckeyes.

The Destroyers all had JHM on their helmets

and did a moment of silence to honor him

The Destroyers lost to Dallas

Blake, Cole and I stayed home and watched a movie, The Water Horse. It was really good, you can see the trailer here

Today was two lacrosse game- of course they were both at the same time so I did a lot of walking back and forth.

Blake’s game

Austin’s game

Blake’s game

Austin’s game

As you can see, Austin’s team wears protection- they are allowed to “check”. Blake’s team won’t do that until next year.
Austin’s team tied. He says he gave another kid a bloody nose, glad I wasn’t there to see that. They play rough. And it’s encouraged. Starting to remind me of hockey.
Blake scored two goals, too bad they were the only two goals his team made, they got creamed. But that’s ok.
Off to clean up before we head out.
I am SOOOO excited to see Elvis Costello, and Sting too but I seriously love Elvis.
I will leave you with my all time favorite Elvis song. Check him out in the video from 1977. He was so young!

Yesterday I sat down with Austin and we watched this video
[kml_flashembed movie=”http://www.youtube.com/v/0WmmF_ER8Fk” width=”425″ height=”350″/]
After it was over we sat there for a moment.
Finally I said- “You are very lucky”
Very quietly he said, “yes”
Thank you MTV and Radiohead for the video
Thank you Kim for spreading the word

I have been thinking about doing a post on the death of John H. McConnell since he passed away last week. When you have a blog that is also tied to a business it can sometimes be a strange line between the behind the scenes and the personal behind the scenes.
Because I am a mom of boys, half my life is centered on sports. The other half is all girl. Trying to find the happy medium, I plug along. I know a lot of people only read my blog to see color, bags, and fun stuff like that. I hate the idea that I bore you when I talk sports but in an effort to keep my life less hectic I have to combine the whole deal on one blog.
That means pictures of the kids for the grandparents, musings on my crazy life, pictures of bags, and a little bit of hockey (and other sports) thrown in.
I also like to point out when someone has gone above and beyond. So here is my post dedicated to John McConnell.
I am sure that 99% of you don’t know who he is.
I won’t bore you with the details, you can read about him here
Basically he was a guy that built a company from the ground up, Worthington Industries. He was known throughout the company and community as Mr. Mac
“It just came natural,” he said in a 1996 interview. “You don’t cheat. You don’t lie. You help your neighbor.”

He was huge on philanthropy and brought major sports to our city. In 1997 he headed the effort to bring the National Hockey League to Columbus, writing a personal check for the whole sha-bang. Without him the Blue Jackets would not be here.
He was also a minority owner of the Columbus Crew and the Columbus Destroyers.
You can read about the Blue Jackets reaction here
and here
But putting sports aside, he was also huge in our little town- I always hesitate in calling Worthington a “suburb” since it is pretty much inside the city limits of Columbus and was established in 1803.
McConnell once again opened his checkbook when approached to help fund an arts center- his only request was to “make it first-class”. The arts center was designated the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center of Worthington, after his late wife.
“This is the perfect marriage of my two passions: the city of Worthington and finding ways to recognize and remember my wife.” he said last year.
Mr. Mac was at the final Blue Jackets game just a few weeks ago. They gave away posters of the team at that game, with Mr. Mac sitting proudly in the middle.
Blake has it hanging on his wall and before he went to bed the other night we talked about him, what he did, and how cool it was to see him at that final game.
And I read somewhere that it was shame that he didn’t live to see the Blue Jackets make the play-offs in his lifetime but when they do, he will have the best seat in the house.
Thanks Mr. Mac.
