Chit-chat

Ok so the last few blog posts have been mostly pictures so now it is time for some chatting.

Nothing like a breezy cool night on the balcony by MYSELF!  All boys are downstairs watching a movie and really I am not alone,  there are three doglets roaming around up here with me. Perfect.

Took the boys to see Kung Fu Panda today.  A big step for me as I am so over kid movies.  But with Jack Black and Seth Rogen…..I seriously can’t even tell you how much I love Seth Rogen.  I would pay good money just to hear the dude laugh.

It was a good movie.  A good message.

So speaking of a good message- for all you avid readers out there… sometimes I need to be talked into not putting a book down.  Like the Kite Runner for example.  I had a hard time getting into that book and then midway through where the the little boy gets “assaulted”  I was done.  See I don’t like to read stories like that or see movies like that.  I like comedy.  If I want to see bad stuff I just turn on the evening news.  Anyway, my friends talked me into finishing it, and it was fine.  But I didn’t LOVE it and I certainly wouldn’t read it again.

Recently I started reading Eat Pray Love.  At first I really liked it, all the talk about Italy, good food, relaxing and having fun.  I was all over that.  But just when I was trying to figure out what my word was (some guy she meets in Italy tells her that every person, every city, state, etc- has a word that represents it)- I loved this idea but had a hard time picking one word for myself.  Anyway as I am still pondering the word, her stay in Italy ends and she moves on to India.  Where everything changes.  Now it’s all about meditation, calmness, seriousness…. and I am BORED.  I put it down and have yet to pick it back up.  Please talk me into picking it back up- or not if you think it sucked.  And if you have any good books you can recommend for the beach let me know!

    Hi Elisa,

same here… I got pretty bored when I started to read the India part yet am excited to read the next chapter, which is Indonesia because that’s where I am from. Oops.. guess I didn’t help that much.

Btw, Hello from Indonesia… I love your creations.

While I thought the “Pray” section was really good, feel free to skip over it and go right to “Love”. I really liked the book.

I recently read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. They claim it’s geared towards teens, but it was a great story. Very Harry Potter-esque to me. Fast paced action, interesting characters. Ok, so it’s a vampire story, but I got over that. And then there’s always Janet Evanovich. Funny stuff.

My reading tastes are not those of the ‘book club’ crowd, but those books always seem either boring or depressing to me. As you said, got enough of that during the day!

    Elisa,
It definately gets better in the last chapter! Try to hang in there, it’s totally worth it!

As far as “pool reads” go I love Jennifer Weiner who wrote the book “In Her Shoes” that was turned into a great movie with Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette. My favorite book by her is “Good in Bed”. I’m going to pick up a couple of Jen Lancaster books for my pool reads, they sound hilarious “Bright Lights, Big Ass”! What more could you ask for?!

    Hope that helped!

Two books that I’ve read recently and really enjoyed were:

The Savage Garden by Mark Mills – it is about a student from England who researches a garden at a villa in Tuscany and

The Thirteenth Tale: A Novel by Diane Setterfield

    Have fun!

Cool! thanks for the suggestions. I will for sure check those out. The Jen Lancaster one sounds right up my alley.

Continue with Eat, Pray, Love, but I agree with Susan, if meditation isn’t your thing, you can just skip the “pray” and go right to “love”.
As a side: I have decided my personal word is “argyle”.
Oh and while we are on the topic- i figure you will appreciate this- I live in Austin and I decided Austin’s word (ok more like one inanimate object that represents it)- is “a string of chunky, colored christmas lights…hung year round.”
I love your blog and your stuff. -Erin
