I know how you feel

this morning I spotted a tiny little bird on our screened porch.  Our porch is still without a door so it got in and could not figure out how to get back out.

It must have been a baby bird because it wasn’t all that smart.  It kept flying into the screens over and over again.  I stood outside the door and whistled and it would cock it’s head to one side and try to figure out how to get out.  At one point it came towards the door and then at the last minute it turned and flew full blast into the screen on the opposite side again.  It hit so hard it knocked itself out.

I sighed, I had two boys to get ready for school, backpacks to find, checks to write for lunch money.  But there lay this little bird.  I walked over to it (I thought it might be dead) but when I got to it, it opened one eye and looked at me and then flew up to the screen again.  One of the boys left a soccer sock on the porch so I grabbed it and went over to the extremely tired bird.  I gently picked it up and wrapped it in the long sock.  It was so tired it wouldn’t even open it’s eyes.  I called for the boys to come out to take a peak.

I walked around and held that bird while it slept.   Finally it opened up it’s eyes and stared at me.  I held it a little while longer and then took it far into the back yard and opened up the sock.  Off it flew, thankful to be out of that  big porch cage.

Later in the day between trips to the ortho, rec center, dr.’s office, preschool, and football practice I  thought about that little bird.  Running into the same walls over and over again.  Sometimes all you need is a little helping hand.  🙂

Loved this story. Remember the one you found on the farm that had fallen out of the nest? You kept it in a shoe box until it grew some feathers. Such a caring daughter, I am a lucky Mom.
