Check this out

For Christmas a couple years ago my 9 year old son Blake got a Flip video. He liked to use it to make Lego movies. But then he grew tired of the way they turned out, with his hand always in the movie. So he got this idea that he wanted to make “stop action” videos.

He talked about it FOREVER and Andy and I kept blowing him off, hoping he would go back to using the Flip. But one day he asked if he could use one of my cameras. I handed him my old digital rebel and told him to go for it.

He quickly asked how to turn off the flash, he didn’t like the way it made his shots look. Smart boy. He figured the camera out all on his own after that. I was amazed at the patience he had to do these videos. Set it up, take a shot. Move the figure a tiny bit, take a shot. Over and over. He spends hours on it. Then he takes the memory card, loads the pictures onto the computer, adds sound, and voila- he has a Lego movie. He is getting better and better at it too.

this one cracks me up because the focus is all on the crap he should have cleaned up first!

Those are really cool. Grace made some like that with my Mac. There’s a really cool and inexpensive software you can get called istopmotion.

Aren’t sons just the most wonderful gifts? Even when they are dirty and stinky….they are still our baby boys! (Mine is 21 years old now.)
