cooking 101

So tonight we were sitting around our table at the restaurant and Austin reminded me of the food he needs for his country presentation tomorrow. Belgium donuts.

I lean over to Andy and whisper “Tim Hortons“.

Austin, who can hear anything from a mile away unless I am calling his name because I need something says,

“are you kidding me? no way. Everyone will know!”

I just look at him and say, “seriously Austin. I can’t cook. And now you are saying they have to be made the day of the presentation “for freshness”…. that would require me to get up at like 6am or even earlier and attempt these things.”

Blake, sitting there thinking while chewing his food says, “really, you should just call MaryBeth.” ( I should probably fess up and admit that MB made the brownies for Blake’s class last year on his birthday. )

Austin says, “Yes! We need to call MaryBeth!”

At this point I don’t admit that I thought of MB days ago, but when he sprang the whole “freshness factor” on me I was reluctant to call her and ask her to come down early before school. I mean I have to draw the line somewhere, right?

Is it wrong to make a 10 year old come over at 6am and try to make Belgium donuts? Right.

At this point in the conversation Cole decides to pull his loose tooth and blood goes everywhere. We all pretty much lose our appetites and head for home.

So, I am off to bed to rest up for my morning in the kitchen. I am secretly hoping Andy will save the day and do it for me. He is a much better cook.

Girl, if we wanted on my husband to cook donuts, we would be running to the jiffy store:)

He is already up in Florence KY. at a hotel with a kitchen and he called to tell me that he went to the grocery store and told me everything he bought. He was SO proud of himself for doing that.

I will be up there Friday. He won’t be roughing it long:)

This made me laugh! I am sure MB would be glad to come and cook at 6am. She seems like a nice girl. LOL

Good luck! Back in high school my now-husband used to be a donut baker for Timmies. And no, not once in our 14 years together has he ever made me donuts. Rice Krispie squares a few times, but that’s it.
