Smoothies

Lately I have been experimenting with Smoothies.

I start with Bolthouse 50/50 (my all time fave juice) or OJ

Then I add a banana, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries.

If I stop at this point my boys will drink it.

For me, I continue on- I add flax.  And lately I have been adding more things.

My first experiment was adding frozen spinach.  And it worked- couldn’t taste it all.

Inspired by that, I tried frozen broccoli

IMG_6108 The broccoli version turned out good- but you could kinda taste the broccoli which didn’t bother me as I like it.

Not sure what I will try next, maybe cauliflower?  Or would that be too gross…?

I will let you know 🙂

We love smoothies! I should try the spinach. I don’t think I would care for the broccoli. I only like cooked broccoli. Same with cauliflower. Smoothies are one of the only ways to get my 15 year old to “eat” breakfast! She is not a morning person, or morning eater!

i do the spinach thing as well… fresh spinach works great, too. i use that on my kids when i can get them to have a smoothie, but sadly they are not that into them (what is WRONG with them?).

the bolthouse juices would be delicious in them. i’ve heard kale is another good thing to try. not sure about the cauliflower, although i can’t imagine it would add too much taste.

do you use ground flax seed or flax seed oil or what?

My kids are into smoothies until I actually make one. They after two sips they are “done.” I had a smoothie recipe I used to make years ago that has silken tofu in it – good way to add protein.
