Ah Choo!

It’s been a crazy allergy season around here.  I am the big allergy sufferer in our house, although they aren’t near as bad here in Ohio as they were in Austin.  Or as a kid in North Carolina where I remember my eyes itching so bad I wanted to poke them out.  Grape Dimetap was my friend.

Anyway, somehow Austin got away without any allergies at all.  But Blake turned up with some early on. His first year of life we thought he had a peanut allergy- that was fun.  He didn’t.  We had him tested and he was positive for a lot of normal things, pollen, ragweed, etc.

But then he wound up in the ER a few times with a swollen throat and we quickly figured out that mulch was a huge trigger for him.  I’m not allergic to mulch so we never thought he would be.

The high school always has big piles of mulch by the lax fields and of course all the boys like to climb them.  Blake was in first grade, after a game, headed up the mulch pile with everyone else.  Hours later he and Andy were headed to the ER.  We didn’t put it together at first until a year or so later and he helped us spread mulch around the yard.  Back to the ER.  Now he knows, no mulch!

For the past three years Cole has gotten bloody noses, starting the month of March.  It took me until this year to really put it together that they were being triggered by spring allergies (I thought it was a cold)  This year has been bad for him, his eyes are itching so bad he rubs them until they hurt.  But I am fine now, so he and I are not allergic to the same thing either.

So now we have turned on the a/c.  Spend a lot of time putting this in his nose.

And I am keeping just a few flowers inside

Sorry about your allergies. My middle daughter and husband suffer too. Let’s hope Eva can escape like big brother!

LOVE your blog! Not sure how I found you but always enjoy your posts! Wanted to tell you that I have two who suffer HORRIBLY with allergies and their eyes are the worst part. We have found that Visine AC or Zadiator eye drops help immensely. Also, both of mine take a “cocktail” of allergy meds (singulair AND zyrtec for one and singulair and alavert for the other) plus the eye drops. This really seems to help.

Hope they feel better. I know it’s miserable. My 12 yo puts spoons in the freezer and then lays on the couch with the cold spoons on his eyes. It gives some temporary relief!

    Have a great–and itch-free–summer!

Have you ever tried that nasal rinse? My husband swears by that.

    Sigh…allergies. Ugh.

Ok. So, I need you to come help me in my yard – yours is GORGEOUS!! Seriously! I wonder how much it would be to fly you out here…;-)

I have the greatest sympathy for you guys. I have very severe allergies and 2 of my kids have varying degrees of allergies. I hate having to have my house locked up and the a/c on, but after getting extremely sick I have learned that I can not leave my windows open. I am pretty sure that allergies are one of the worse things ever.
