Dinner of Champions

Last Friday Andy was in New Jersey so I hit the pool with the kids and friends. There were a lot of us meeting up there so I grabbed a few chairs and pushed them together and tried to make a play-pen for Eva.

I don’t know what is happening to our little town of Worthington but I have just about had it with grumpy old people. I had to quit the rec center and join a real gym due (in part) to rude older men. Then at the pool- there was a guy that took it upon himself to police the pool, grabbing chairs away, yelling at one of my friends when she took Eva in the “adult” pool. Talking bad about us and all of our kids to his lady friends. There were 5-8 moms sitting with us and who knows how many kids- we had two lounge chairs and a handful of small chairs- certainly not enough for everyone. At one point I told him to lighten up, it is a family pool.

Despite all this, we spent the entire day there.

Austin left the pool with friends, and Blake left with a friend for a sleepover.

That left me and Cole and Eva to enjoy our Friday night at home.

I didn’t feel like cooking, so Cole came up with his own dinner.

I should add that even though there seems to be an abundance of grumpy people lately, our next door neighbor Kitty Jo is still the sweetest ever and Cole adores her. He goes over there every chance he gets.

While in New Jersey, Andy went to visit his sister in Westfield.

I told him to take some pics- here is what he came back with.

ok, now the pics get a little blurry. But I thought they were worth including

Andy said that Westfield was like a grown-up version of Worthington

Westfiled, NJ

Both are old and historic, with a cool downtown with restaurants and shops.

Westfield has a bigger downtown, with more stores- and major stores (like Gap, VS, Trader Joes, Crumbs!!)

I have realized that one of the most important things to me is living in a walkable city. Walk to the library, walk to downtown, the pool, kids walk to school.

Even if I choose to drive, I love having the option to walk.

I wish we could have gone with him to play, or to take the train into NYC- maybe next time!

There’s a Crumbs in Westfield? Awesome! I’ve been in NJ for 4 years now and still know very little other than this state gets a bad rap. It’s actually quite beautiful here. Lots of areas with homes like Westfield and walkable downtowns. I still miss Chicago, but for now NJ is ok.

And I guess I’m off to Crumbs. For the kids, of course. 🙂

I’m glad he got a shot of Vicki’s Diner. Mom will attest that, freakishly, they have the best grits we’ve ever had. In NJ of all places! Can’t wait for you and the kids to come visit our wonderful little town sometime.

Julie is right – Vicki’s has amazing grits. Who would have thought anything would beat our local Paris Coffee Shop in Fort Worth.
