Checking in

We have reached our destination. No we are not at the beach, although we are very close! We are not at the farm.

It’s weird traveling solo.

My Texas trip last April showed me I could do it. Of course that was with the help of a 12 year old.

There is a certain freedom with just taking off. And being ok with it.

Even with 3 kids

Even with a one year old.

And a more than crazy 7 year old.

All the kids were good.

And to be honest, life is so much easier than it was when I had two little ones that were close in age. And I appreciate that.

Did I tell you that Blake changed Eva’s diaper the other day? And no, I did not pay him.

And now I am in a hotel room. One baby is walking all over the place enjoying her freedom, one 7 year old turned off all the lights and is running from the bedroom back to the “living room” with a flashlight- being a total crazy man. It’s all good. He has been in the car for 8 hours. The 11 year old is on the couch with his dsi, watching the poker channel because he saw some billboards on the way here that said “if you are under 21 and play poker, we will find you!!” He thinks it’s funny. It is.

But a few minutes ago Cole said, “I wish Austin was here.” And it’s true. I do too. I wish Andy was here too. But there is a calmness that happens with these kiddos when they know they have to step up. Mom is on her own. With not even the oldest to help. And they behave. Sorta. At least so far.

We all just did a big mutual pinkie promise to be on best behavior and for me not to lose my temper and yell, and for them to be little men- and for Eva just to behave and not yell all the time. I will keep you posted how we all do.

This has been the year for random roadtrips and I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed them. I know my kids will look back some day and thank me for being a mom that always flew by the seat of her pants. At least I hope they well.

And here is a picture of Cole, who made me take a bunch of pictures of him checking the hall and then saying “use this one because I was clenching my butt cheeks!!”

Oh i love road trips but I am a little scared to go w/out the hubby. What if the car breaks down? Or i get so lost I freak out? I have been thinking of a road trip to MN before school starts but maybe I’ll venture a little more close to home..we’ll see. Sounds like so much fun! Have fun!

Ok. So, the butt cheaks thing has me rolling. Seriously. That’s something Owen would totally say…love it. Love, love, love road trips!

I’ve been meaning to e-mail you in like forever – but, with 4 kids – you know. I need to take the time…look for one soon! 🙂

    Have fun on your trip!!!

my kids call that the “pee hole”:) We’ve never corrected them. It’s gross now that I type it out – funny while we’re staying in hotel rooms and they say it all serious.
