Dog Heaven
Last night while looking through the bookshelf for a book to read before bed Cole yelled out, “Hey we have this book??” He had Dog Heaven in his hand. “Yes, Mrs. Hoover gave it to you when Astro died.” I told him.
He looked at me and said, “I have had this book in my desk for a week at school because I have been thinking about Fro (our nickname for Astro) a lot lately.”
He opened the book, found the page he was looking for and read-
So Sometimes an angel will walk a dog
back to Earth for a little visit and quietly,
invisibly, the dog will sniff about his old
backyard, will investigate the cat next
door, will follow the child to school, will
sit on the front porch and wait for the mail.
He closed the book and said, “I have been looking behind me, looking for Fro. Hoping he is there, following me to school.”
He laid the book down and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth.
I sat there for a second and then picked up the book and read the whole thing, tears streaming down my face.
I miss you buddy.
Do you think when you quietly walk behind my little Coley man will you keep an eye on him? Keep him outta trouble? Keep him safe? I know you will.

Awwww, we had a golden retriever,but we got rid of him b/c well honestly, we are just not a family meant to have dogs. I love dogs and dog sit plenty of times through out the year for friends,but they come with alot of responsiblity,time and financially. But I do get sad when I think of him,Riley was his name. At times I do miss him esp. when I see other goldens on the street w/their families. This was a cute post. 🙂

Great. Now I’m crying. I’m not sure what is sweeter, the dog or your son. I’m going to go upstairs and find pictures of our dalmatian Bailey, and Dmitry from years ago and cry some more.

This made me cry. We have a 13 year old belgian malinois who’s health is going down hill and I know that painful decision is right around the corner. She’s been the best dog we’ve ever had.

Now I have tears, and I have never even read that book. But I have two old labs. 🙂
