A Tuesday Afternoon

First I want to thank you guys again for all the sweet comments and emails about our house struggles. Buying and selling houses is not for sissies. Thats for sure.

But the good news is that we close on our house next Friday- the 30th. I have been hesitant about putting that out there as we have had weird crazy things happen while trying to buy this house. Every single one of them out of our control. I know most of you are wondering what the heck happened. And some day I may do a big post and explain it all. No doubt is has been frustrating and disappointing, and then sometimes so shocking it is now just funny.

My most frustrating thing at this point is now our stuff, all being stored by North American up in Ohio- can’t be delivered until April 7th. We have changed the date of delivery so many times and I am just so frustrated with it all. If it was our fault I would understand. We have had to buy extra stuff, stuff we already have. Lacrosse pads, cleats…. Austin has to dress up each game day. Well of course he doesn’t have any of his clothes because I only packed school clothes for a couple months. Gym bags and other silly things that I just assumed would be ok to live without for a couple months. And of course the fee to store our stuff is not cheap.

But that’s the way it goes. And I am not going to let all of the negative things that have happened make me less happy that we are finally going to get our awesome house.

Do I wish this whole thing had gone differently? Absolutely. From the beginning all the way to end. But at this point it is time to let it go and move forward. I have pitched a few fits, let myself be angry. It’s the only way to move forward.

So let’s talk about a Tuesday afternoon.

My little guy is funny about homework. Well not funny so much. If it’s math- he sits down and does it all on his own and never asks for help. But if it involves writing and story telling- well he starts to whine. Big time.

His handwriting is not great. Terrible really. But so was Austin’s when he was this age so I am hoping that it will get better.

We have to sit and I will admit that it is torture. He complains and complains, and it usually only takes us 10 minutes but it feels like hours.

I like to knock it out before the brothers get home because if he starts that whining in front of them they make fun of him like crazy.

So the girlie asked me to paint her nails. We usually only do toenails. Because I was afraid she would either eat it or get it everywhere. She promised she wouldn’t. That she would let it dry.

So what is the first thing she does?

And of course the brother is still rolling on the floor complaining about homework

Of course I have no nail polish removal

And I wouldn’t use it on her face anyway.

I felt bad for the girlie last night. Andy had a work dinner until late so she had to spend the evening in the car as both older brothers had lacrosse.

It was 8pm before I could get them food. They were all starving. So I went to Wendy’s. Which of course is almost in Durham.

It wasn’t the best night to ditch diapers and make her wear big girl undies. But for some reason I took that on at well. Of course she refused to pee on the potty until 9:30pm when Andy was home. And honestly I think the only reason she did it then was because it thundered so loud it scared the pee out of her. I am not kidding.

So the year we move south- the north has the best winter ever. And today it is supposed to be 85 in Ohio and 75 here. So weird. I am ok with the 75- pretty sure we have long hot summer ahead of us. No need to rush it.

So glad things are moving ahead for you and the house and boy Cole reminds me of my 8yr old and homework. I dread when he comes home sometimes just so I don’t have to deal w/homework. But the rolling on the ground and the whining really hit home 🙂

I love that face with hot pink nail polish on it. So cute.

Dmitry is almost 14 and still whines nonstop about school work. I mean nonstop. Plus his handwritting is horrid. I mean totally horrid. I think it might have even gotten worse this year because he never writes, it’s all on line. It’s killing me.

I’m not being overly dramatic…it really IS killing me.

    Okay, it’s not.

    You big house buying sissy!!

My now 9 year old ( he turned 9 on Tuesday) does not like Math. It’s not that he can’t do the work he just doesn’t like it. He lays on the floor and complains the whole time. The writing he loves, but his handwriting is horrible. Thankfully some of his teacher’s don’t care as long as it is legible. I’m told once they get to high school everything is on the computer.
Thanks for sharing. Glad you got a date to close. That would have driven me crazy…

The whining drives me crazy too, esp when the homework would have been done LONG ago if the whining hadn’t happened. No problem with Grace with this (ever, in fact), but Alex could give Cole a run for his money.

Robbie does the same thing when it comes to writing homework. It makes me crazy. Any other homework, no problem, but having to write is the worst. The teachers told me Robbie could type, but that takes longer. Hang in there. I am glad you are closing on your house, and you will have all of your stuff soon. It will make life so much easier!! Only a few more weeks of townhouse living, and then you will have your backyard!! Everyone will be happy!

Hugs to you all! I can’t wait to hear that the house is final, you are surrounded with all your stuff and you can focus on the good, old, settling in stuff. So bummed it has been such a rough road but by all appearances you all are handling it with an impressive amount of grace. more hugs:)

Thank you so much for telling us about Cole’s writing issues. My son has the same thing – Math, no prob. Writing? He’d rather pull his fingernails out. The whining and avoiding drive me INSANE! I’m really glad to know I’m not the only one suffering.

Congrats on the house (not jinxing you!). Don’t worry about the ‘stuff’. It’s only 7 days. Take a deep breath, you’ll get there. And let’s not forget that summer is coming!!!

Juwt wanted to tell you that my girlfriend always paints her daughters fingers and used Sally Hansen brand rapid dry polish- dries to the touch in just about two minutes. If you are worried about using adult polish on her they aslo make rapid dry drops you can use with any polish that does the same thing (i use those- they are awesome!)
