Book Club
Last night Cole and I had our first neighborhood mother/son book club. As you can imagine, trying to talk about a book with a group of 9 and 10 years who spent half the time wrestling on the floor was a bit of a challenge but all in all it went well and they did good
They read the book The Giver.
I will be honest. I didn’t read the book. I somehow ran out of time. So I read the cliff notes online. Bad. I know.
I just got an email from Cole’s Spanish teacher. Turns out my little midwestern 3rd grader is not so hot with his Spanish (it was not taught in elementary school in Ohio). So we have to watch some videos.
There are a bunch of them. They suck you in. You will find yourself singing along.
All three boys are having some “growing pains” with school in Chapel Hill. It’s a bit harder than it was in Ohio. I have very mixed feelings about the whole thing.
One thing that the moms talked about last night was the fact that Chapel Hill is SO hard that the kids that would normally be in the top 10% aren’t. And therefore can’t get into UNC and Duke. It stinks. Some even move out of the district so that their kids have a much better chance of getting in.
Sorta feel like we did them a disservice- putting them in the best district in the state.
Moving on.
It’s Cold here today. I don’t like cold. I turned the heat on.
And because every post needs a pic- even if it’s just an iPhone one…..
Looks like our trampoline needs a new net. I blame freshmen

We are having a lot of the same experiences…although we only moved 40 minutes away Max now has Spanish and a much more challenging academic schedule. TJ’s top three college choices include Duke…hopefully we can make a visit to see if it stays in his top 3. Love the Ohio shirt, Russ and I are Big Ten, go Hawks!

Hello,
I’m a regular reader but infrequent commenter. Sorry, I know…bad blog reader.
I just wanted to say that I feel like we are living parallel lives in so many ways. I had two sons and then had a daughter the same July you adopted Eva. My daughter is also spirited and keeps me on my toes every minute. Thank goodness she is so cute!
We recently relocated to Vancouver from Calgary. My boys are adjusting to a new school system and its also been an adjustment. There is a real cliquey-ness to the area we are living in. I have taught part-time since my kids were small, but I feel very judged that I want to do anything other than be a full-time SAHM. It reminds me of the Stepford Wives! I also had lots of friends at home and now I find myself lonely for the first time. I just wanted you to know that your blog has been a source of comfort to me knowing that I’m not the only one in this situation. 🙂 Thank-you for that.
I know you are also a Poi Dog Pondering fan. We are seeing them in Seattle later this month and I can’t wait!
I hope this note doesn’t seem stalkerish…I’m really very normal!
