Respect

I am so glad the election is over.

It has been an ugly one.

I went to bed last night not knowing the results, but woke up at midnight to check in.

I saw something last night online that someone related to me wrote. A racial slur. And my heart broke. Because I love this person dearly.

Actually my heart started beating really fast and I thought that I was going to throw up.

It took me a good hour to calm down.

Mostly because I just don’t understand.

The lack of respect is shocking.

I hope I am raising my kids to be respectful. Even when things don’t go your way.

Because there are going to be a lot things that aren’t going to go their way.

And when they don’t I hope they don’t come out swinging with ignorant hurtful words.

Words that can fuel all kinds of ugliness and hate.

Disagreement is ok. That’s what makes life interesting.

Violence and racism are not.

So once again I unplugging from social media until things calm down.

Except maybe instagram– that’s a happy place.

I too have removed myself from ALL social network sites (at least for a few days). I saw things last night/this morning from people I absolutely adore, that made me sick to my stomach. I am glad people are passionate about what they believe in, but I don’t agree with what I saw.

This whole election thing has already caused a tiff between me and my SIL, because she overheard me discussing my political views with my husband and she strongly disagreed with me. This is America and we all have a right to feel/vote the way we want to…..Ugh!

very well said. I’m sure your children will know how to pick themselves up and carry one. You and Andy are great parents! This election has been emotionally draining, and I am glad it is over. The country as a whole has forgotten the meaning of respect.

I too have seen some awful stuff…mostly on Facebook. It’s very shocking and sad that many people have not gotten past those hatreds. The behaviors we, as parents, display ourselves shows our kiddos how to act in this big, vast, varied world and for things to change we all must remember this.

I don’t support President Obama. I voted and didn’t vote for him. However, I do respect the office. I teach my children to respect the president and his office, no matter if it’s someone we voted for or not. I get sick of politics from both sides. I am so sick of hearing crap that it’s just not funny.

Totally agree with you – I have been sickened by the comments people have made and afraid to think of what they say (and even how they must talk) to those nearest and dearest to them if they can go public in such a vile way. Breaks my heart. Miss you and hope that you are having a wonderful OHIO visit. We have again mis-timed things as I will be in Cbus next weekend 🙁 So I am thankful for social media for allowing me to feel connected with you & yours although it has been forever since we actually gotten to hang together xo
