Life - My Style

Full Circle

Have you ever gotten to the point where you think it would be easier to just move rather than continue to try to get your house the way you want it? I do. Often. But it always seems to come back full circle, back to the place we call home.

Yesterday I happened to notice a house for sale on street in our neighborhood that is filled with million dollar homes on huge lots. The house was in our price range (which is no where near a million dollars). The house isn’t our style, a 60’s bi-level. But it is sitting nicely on an acre and a half right by the river and bike trail and is a whopping 3100 square feet.

Andy had the day off so we called our realtor (who informed me on the phone that the house was SO not my style). We went in with an open mind.

We loved the lot. It was absolutely huge with nice big trees, just beautiful. The house was interesting. It was huge, very open, all carpet, built in fish tank, floor to ceiling lava rock fireplace, indoor lava rock fountain, 2 kitchens, 5 bedrooms, lots of big windows overlooking the backyard.

We came out with our heads spinning with the possiblities, no addition needed- just lots and lots of updating. But as I started to think about the updating and how the house is screaming for a modern look interior, or even a cool retro look I was slammed with the reality that is just not my style. I can’t go in and add bigger trim, french doors, a screened porch and make it all better. Those things would never work in that house. I came back home and felt more at ease surrounded by divided light windows, hard wood floors, and traditional rooms. So as they say, size isn’t everything- at least where a house is concerned.

We will plug along with this house, adding our touch and trying to figure out how to make it work for a family of five.
