Family - Life - our house

Hey you

What are you doing today? I am doing a lot of this

Guess what I am doing today??

I am incorporating a new “plan”. Laundry is almost a constant in this house, so I am taking the advice of Real Simple which says that unless they are dirty, jeans should be worn 3 times. I have informed the boys of this and we will see if it turns out to be a really gross experiment or if it cuts down on my laundry time.

I am also taking the advice of a friend that also has a bunch of kids. She said she always washes each kids laundry alone. That way it saves on all the sorting. I have tried this before but didn’t stick to it. This time I have two baskets for each kid, one dirty and one clean. I’ll let you know how it goes.

The next thing I am attempting to do is get them to put away their clothes. I have pretty much given up on the folding as they just can’t get it. At least so it will fit it the drawers. Maybe they are doing that on purpose…

As a last result I will throw away all of their clothes and make them live with two pairs of pants and two shirts.

Yay, the news just in- winter storm headed our way! Finally the kids may get to use their new snowball “guns”

Guess I better hit the grocery store.

  1. i am so thankful to see this! maybe i should post a pic of the clean pile on our couch. i’ve been avoiding folding it all day. i’ve just been cycling it all through the washer & dryer just to have it pile up ready for me to fold and like you are aiming for…them putting it away!
i’m the one who wrote to you a month or so ago w/ questions about cameras. we got a rebel so maybe i’ll go take some pics and have fun w/ our camera and tackle the folding later. hmmm…

  2. Laundry can ALWAYS wait. I haven’t touched that pile yet. And I had such good intentions…..

Have fun with your new camera!

  3. okay some how i’ve managed to teach simon to put his laundry away but i haven’t been good about making him fold it. also, how on earth do you teach them to pay attention to wearing it 3 times before they put it in the dirty clothes basket? because if there is a system i can teach him, i think he’ll do it. greta, on the other hand, is a different story. i’m attributing that to her being 4.

  4. my husband has always wanted us to use the 3x’s rule, but the kids have been REALLY reluctant. We’re trying to enforce it now. How come they want clean jeans every day but they’ll wear the same underwear for a week?

  5. I hate doig laundry and my 5yr old insists on changing his pants EVERYDAY he comes home from school. I don’t know what’s with that so I tell him that’s fine as long as he hangs his jeans up and doesn’t throw them in the dirty basket. Like you I have three boys and am so tired of doing laundry. I’ll wash and dry during the day and then when my husband gets home he’ll fold and put away the clothes..works for me 🙂 And I really need to move to Ohio, you guys are always getting snow it seems…no snow in MD 🙁 Have fun!!

  6. Elisa- I started washing my kids clothes separately and it has definitely cut down sorting time. I also try to fold stuff right out of the dryer- warm laundry is nicer to fold, and I don’t end up lugging it all to my bed. I’m tired of my bed lookin like laundry central!Good luck! I think I did 5 loads yesterday…..

  7. I have tried everything…..but that laundry mountain always comes back!!!!!
I’m curious to know how you are doing with it:)
