More Birthday and a little photog talk

Ok before I load up the other birthday pictures I wanted to chat a bit about photography.

Those that know me, or have read my blog for a while know that I have been into photography FOREVER. And when you have a hobby/passion forever you tend to ebb and flow with it, trying new things, etc.

Lately, well for the past 6 months at least I have been anti post-processing. I’m not sure how it started, I think a combo of being lazy, having 4 kids, running a biz…. I was so into learning about it for a while, have a bunch of blogs bookmarked (you know all the moms that start a photog biz), bought a lot of books…. But I don’t even have photoshop and now I know why. I don’t like post processed pictures. A little is ok but the thing that bugs me the most is what I like to call “creepy eyes.” You know the ones, the babies with the weird faceted eyes that pop out of the picture.

At first I thought it was cool- learned how to to do it with elements- layers, unsharp, dodge the eyes…. But then it hit me. Eyes don’t look like that in real life- why document your baby with weirdo eyes?

I don’t know, it’s probably just me. I’m not against fixing flaws- my husband wouldn’t have a job if someone wasn’t working some serious magic on the VS catalog. 🙂

And maybe it’s all an excuse as to why my pics look like crap lately.

Moving on-Here are a few more pics from Blake’s birthday dinner

  1. I think those are great pics. And tell you son I love his shirt (big Star Wars fan)!

And if you don’t want to buy Photoshop… you could always use GIMP. Its pretty darn similar and FREE. 🙂

  2. I totally agree with you about too much editing. I use a little bit in iphoto just to lighten/darken but otherwise I leave stuff alone. Yes, I look better when my friend photo shops pictures of me but it’s not the real me. I don’t want my girls to grow up thinking theeir photos have to be “fixed up” in order to look good. Tara W. took our pictures last summer and her type of editing it perfect to me.

And… your pictures are always so good. Your time is better spent on other things, like holding that new baby.

Sorry this is such a long comment. I guess too much post-processing just drives me a little crazy too.
