There is no doubt in my mind I am supposed to be living in some funky little beach town. You know the kind, where there is no neon, no big souvenir shops, just lots of cool local places to eat and shop.
Taco Boy, in Folly Beach South Carolina
For the past couple of years I have been obsessed with all things South Carolina. Mainly Charleston, Folly Beach, and the islands. Feeling a big pull from that area. I am already planning our retirement, or at least an Elisalou relocation.
Recently I picked up this book from the library
And was then surprised to see the authors beach house in the latest Better Homes and Gardens.
Her house is on Tybee Island which is off the coast of Georgia. May have to check that one out next.
Here are some pictures of her house
I could live here. I really could.
She and her husband live in Atlanta full time. But Tybee is only 4 hours away
And her kids and Grandkids meet them out there on weekends.
I could seriously get used to that

I so love this house. And they even rent it out. So you could stay there too!
I don’t think I could rent it out, if it belonged to me. I’m selfish like that.
Nothing fancy, just laid back living.
This bathroom! Love it.
My husband is always getting phone calls from recruiters trying to lure him out to the west coast but as hard as I try I can’t seem to get on board. And don’t get me wrong, Cali is beautiful- I lived there as a kid for a bit. But I am an east coast girl. Big time. I recently read someone describing the diff between the Pacific Ocean vs. the Atlantic. Words like angry and cold were used to describe the Pacific, and they ended saying “and no matter which way you drive, the water is always on the wrong side of the road.”
So true.

I love your beach posts. They are so dreamy, but at the same time a bit depressing b/c I’m not living on the beach! I get what you are saying! Tybee Island is awesome b/c its so close to Savannah. My husband proposed to be on the beach at Tybee Island. Lots of great memories. Another SC beach you should check out is Fripp Island. Totally low key — love it! Its a great little hidden gem where you drive your golf cart everywhere!
I too LOVE the Carolinas.. I stayed on Isle of Palms 8 years ago & have dreamt of that trip ever since. What a beautiful place! I will be checking The Fixer Upper out of the library today….
My sister left her Nashville home yesterday for a week on Tybee- what a coincidence!
When Mike was stationed at Ft Gordon, Tybee was the beach of choice for us. We could be there in less than two hours. Loved that to get to Tybee Island we got to drive through a funky town called Thunderbolt. We had some good meals there looking over the marina.
We live in KY but took our first family (me, hubby, and 2 kids) vacation (we usually visit extended family in TX for our vacations) 2 summers ago. We spent time in Savannah–love that town and Tybee Island. I would highly recommend it. My kids really want to go back.
Ever checked out Kiawah Island? LOVE!
Charleston is our home away from home. We have family in Mt. Pleasant, SC, just across the bridge from Charleston. I would love to live down there, it is just a different pace there. The beach is wonderful.
I love your beach posts too Elisa. They are so colorful and filled w/a relaxing lifestyle..something I dream about often. Thanks for sharing these great pics. I’m hoping to get the boys down to the beach this summer..keeping my fingers crossed.
It seems we’re both dreaming of relocating…I saw the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf Coast last year for the first time…madly in love. I keep telling John that Naples (or somewhere the like) calling our names…off to google Folly Beach :0)
I have been reading MKAndrews’ blog, it’s fun! She rents her house through Mermaid Cottages. They all look cute. I have been thinking of going there for a couple of years!
You would love Tybee.. it is very low key.. easy to get to. Savannah is right next door. Savannah is a very pedestrian city. The have an awesome art school there. Keeping it in mind for my son. We vacationed there about 2 years ago. Loved it. Rented out a little bungalow. There were lots of homes for sale at the time.. so I’m sure there are still plenty to chose from.
