100mm lens review

So I mentioned in the last post that I rented a 100mm macro lens.

Yesterday Eva and I went to the North Carolina Botanical Gardens.

It’s just down the road from our house at UNC.

It was my first time there and I loved it. It was small, the perfect size for Eva to run through the trails and look at all the plants and sculptures.

Sometimes it’s hard to not have all the built-in entertainment like we had in Columbus. Specifically the zoo. But we are slowly finding smaller spaces that can be just as interesting.

There were students scattered here and there working in the gardens.

And of course pretty little girls.

But back to the lens. I wanted to see how it worked as a portrait lens but also test it’s macro abilities. The latter was extremely hard since they didn’t give me the good lens with image stabilization. Every time I bent down to take a shot, Eva grabbed my arm and there went the shot.

So I ended up taking a lot of her instead. Which was fine. I have the lens for a week.

As a portrait lens I am not sure this lens is any better than the 85mm.

We saw fish

Nothing better than a warm fall day

We had a great time together. Laughing the whole time.

I kept thinking, we should do this more….

There were tiny turtles

I loved this sculpture

Gotta run to preschool- I will show the macro shots tomorrow

Here is the eye-rolling look I get when she doesn’t want her picture taken anymore

Classic.

She’s a mess. I love her eye roll look…it’s like she’s 15 in her own little world. Our girls, they have plans to take over the world 😉

Try the 135 next time. It’s not for macro but it’s supposed to be awesome as a portrait. It’s on my list!
