{"id":2654,"date":"2010-01-26T08:53:40","date_gmt":"2010-01-26T13:53:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.elisalou.com\/blog\/?p=2654"},"modified":"2025-04-30T13:15:22","modified_gmt":"2025-04-30T17:15:22","slug":"26365","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.elisalou.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/26\/26365\/","title":{"rendered":"26\/365"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am an old house snob.\u00a0 I can admit it.<\/p>\n<p>Andy and I have owned two very cool old houses.\u00a0 Our current house is not one of them.<\/p>\n<p>But I am also picky old house.\u00a0 I really prefer 1910-1930 with my preference being right around 1920.\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 Picky.\u00a0 I love arts and crafts but not dark arts and crafts.\u00a0 I like nooks and built-ins.\u00a0 Walking into a cool old house gives me goose bumps.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not kidding.<\/p>\n<p>So what happens when you find the perfect little town where you want to raise your family.\u00a0 You can walk to church, the library, the quaint historic downtown, and the kids can walk to school.\u00a0 Only probably is you have two little boys, another on the way, a couple of dogs, and all the cool old houses are either nor for sale, not big enough, or there is no yard.<\/p>\n<p>We did the next best thing.\u00a0 We found a cool neighborhood where the houses were a bit bigger, the yards a lot bigger, yet we could still walk everywhere plus have trail access to the bike path along the river.\u00a0 The yard was perfect, big and full of huge old trees.\u00a0 The house, well not so much.\u00a0 1960&#8217;s colonial.\u00a0 You know the kind.\u00a0 Red Brick on the bottom, and white aluminum siding on the top.\u00a0 So not my style.\u00a0\u00a0 But it had good bones- and really we decided it was going to be a temporary house- until a really old house came up for sale that was big enough for our family of 5.<\/p>\n<p>Because Cole was due in 3 months, we didn&#8217;t tackle a ton of things right off the bat.\u00a0 We did pull up all of the carpet, and pretty much the whole house had carpet.\u00a0 Underneath we found wood floors.\u00a0 Lots and lots of wood floors.\u00a0 We had them refinished.\u00a0 The whole house was wallpapered.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not kidding.\u00a0 Everything.\u00a0 I will never wallpaper a house.\u00a0 Ever.\u00a0 I stripped it all with water and fabric softener.
