It’s been a crazy allergy season around here.\u00a0 I am the big allergy sufferer in our house, although they aren’t near as bad here in Ohio as they were in Austin.\u00a0 Or as a kid in North Carolina where I remember my eyes itching so bad I wanted to poke them out.\u00a0 Grape Dimetap was my friend. Anyway, somehow Austin got away without any allergies at all.\u00a0 But Blake turned up with some early on. His first year of life we thought he had a peanut allergy- that was fun.\u00a0 He didn’t.\u00a0 We had him tested and he was positive for a lot of normal things, pollen, ragweed, etc. But then he wound up in the ER a few times with a swollen throat and we quickly figured out that mulch was a huge trigger for him.\u00a0 I’m not allergic to mulch so we never thought he would be. The high school always has big piles of mulch by the lax fields and of course all the boys like to climb them.\u00a0 Blake was in first grade, after a game, headed up the mulch pile with everyone else.\u00a0 Hours later he and Andy were headed to the ER.\u00a0 We didn’t put it together at first until a year or so later and he helped us spread mulch around the yard.\u00a0 Back to the ER.\u00a0 Now he knows, no mulch! For the past three years Cole has gotten bloody noses, starting the month of March.\u00a0 It took me until this year to really put it together that they were being triggered by spring allergies (I thought it was a cold)\u00a0 This year has been bad for him, his eyes are itching so bad he rubs them until they hurt.\u00a0 But I am fine now, so he and I are not allergic to the same thing either. So now we have turned on the a\/c.\u00a0 Spend a lot of time putting this in his nose.
