weekend

Posted in ElisaLou at 7:25 pm by Elisa

I started a post on sports, hockey on Friday night- so good to see the CBJ back in action.

Blake and Cole’s soccer games on Saturday- I am so over soccer- isn’t that sad?

And then Austin’s football today- a very good lesson for my kids to learn about dirty play…. and how even if you lose, it feels better than cheating.

But instead let’s talk about Halloween, pretty much my favorite holiday (well I like Christmas too).  Getting in the mood around here

trying to get a jump start on costumes

and then look at this cute girl

she has the right idea on how to spend the weekend, dont-cha think?

I just stumbled on this site and blog and it has so much cool stuff.

You can see more here

She has a cool blog, I love these pics by Todd Selby

this one caught my eye because Cole really wants to learn how to play the drums.  Between that and Blake and his electric guitar (which has greatly improved now that he is taking lessons) I am thinking we need a soundproof room in the basement.  They are planning to start a band.  Still need a lead singer though.

How cool are these parents to give their kids rooms like this?

There are so many cool pictures on this blog I could look all day

love this girl room, oh those boots!

make sure you have a bit of time before you click on her blog!

The latest from the guy who wins everything

Posted in ElisaLou at 6:42 am by Elisa

he won this at the conference in Vegas.  Yes, we already have a Wii but ours has already been in the shop once and is very picky about games.  Hoping the new one isn’t so finicky.

Ike blew through the hood

Posted in ElisaLou at 7:22 am by Elisa

So we never thought Ike would make it this far north but he did and left trees down and 20 people dead, oh and no power. For 8 days.

This is how we ate breakfast

Everyone has tree limbs piled in front

Crazy to see such large trees completely uprooted

There was no rain, just wind.

This tree fell on a car.  One of Austin’s football coaches is a fireman that arrived on the scene.  He said they expected the worst by the looks of the smashed car but the couple got out and walked away.

But all in all it really wasn’t bad.  The weather has been wonderful and the kids did fine without tv and video games.  I went out and bought each kid a giant flashlight and when it got dark, we read in bed with the flashlights.  Losing all the food in the fridge was a pain and even though I tried really hard to do what the fish store told me would help keep our fish alive, we still lost our biggest one.

Friday night a photographer from our local paper came over to take pictures of how a family was dealing with the power outage.  Blake made page two of Saturdays paper.  You can see it here.

Saturday night the power went on but only on the other side of the street.  That is always the worst, when you look out the window and see the lights on at your neighbors house.  So we started prank calling our friends down the street.

“hey do you have a flashlight we can borrow?”  click

“hey do you have the number to AEP?” click- we thought this one was funny because he works for AEP
“got power?” click

Fortunately they are good sports and used to our immaturity, especially when we showed up down at their house later spying in their windows with flashlights.  They let us in.  :)

Yesterday we went to Kings Island, an amusement park down by Cincy.  Andy’s work had the park for the day so it was perfect to get out of no power house.  On the way home my cell phone rings and Austin’s buddy Matthew comes on the bluetooth to announce that we really needed to get home because we were wasting energy with our house all lit up like a christmas tree.  I would have kissed his little face if I could.  The boys didn’t believe him, so we had to call others on the street to make sure the power really came back on.

Whew.  Lifted the mood of the car that’s for sure.  Especially my Blakey man who was very sad after losing his hat on a roller coaster.

Red Rock Canyon

Posted in ElisaLou at 10:21 am by Elisa

It is very beautiful out here in Nevada. Very hot and dry, but beautiful.

Here is a before the hike picture, see I am still happy :)

It was nice to get out off the strip and into the wide open

a very large rock

we hiked for about three miles- it was like a stair climber on extremely hard. Lots of rocks, all uphill, and very hot.

But some really great views.

No Power

Posted in ElisaLou at 6:38 pm by Elisa

So here I am in sunny Las Vegas while my kiddos are home with no power.

Ike decided to make it up to Ohio yesterday and blew out power in much of our area.  My poor mom is stuck there with three kids and no power.  I guess it’s pretty bad, they didn’t have school today, no school tomorrow, and it looks like it is going to take a week to get it back on.  Sounds like I am going to have a fridge and freezer to clean out later this week.

And here I am in blazing hot Nevada.  With power.  I feel bad.

Snow on the mountain tops.

We are off to dinner

but tomorrow I will post pics of our crazy hiking trip in Red Rock Canyon on a 100+ degree day!

Vegas Baby

Posted in ElisaLou at 8:33 pm by Elisa

Today Andy and I boarded a plane and left the kids with the grandparents for only the 2nd time in our 11 years of parenting.  And only our oldest was sad to see us go.  Andy has a conference and I tagged along for the ride.
Pics to come.

I am SO ready for hockey season.

Hold on TIGHT!

Posted in ElisaLou at 6:00 pm by Elisa

My poor brother and his family just moved from Ohio to Houston Texas.  Of course we filled him in on all of the great things about the Lone Star State- mostly good Mexican food!  But he moved down there in the heat of the summer and now he is dealing with Ike.  I feel bad for him.  But knowing my brother, he is thriving on the excitement.  And hurricanes are nothing new, we lived on the coast of North Carolina a couple times when we were growing up.

So hang on tight guys- we are thinking of you!

And because I am so proud of them, look how gorgeous my nieces are

Love them and miss them!

Because I don’t know what to say

Posted in ElisaLou at 7:29 am by Elisa

This morning Austin asked if I remembered where I was when I “heard”.  “Of course” I told him.
I remember the time like it was yesterday.  He had just turned 4 years old and we weren’t sure how to shield him from the news, and when he did hear, how to explain it all to him.

We talked for years about bad guys flying planes into buildings.

I remember standing in front of the tv, baby Blake in my arms- staring in disbelief.

And because I just don’t know what else to say, here is a re-post from a couple years ago.

Every year when this date rolls around I think about where I was when this horrible event took place.  We were living Dallas, I was taking Austin to preschool and my cell phone rang.  It was Andy, “Have you heard the news?  All hell is breaking loose.”  I wasn’t sure if I should take Austin to school but decided to go ahead- I sat in the class with a couple other parents, every one seemed shocked and quiet.  I went home and turned on the news.  The images, just unbelievable.

In the aftermath a lot of emails circulated, I’m not sure who sent this to me but I watch it every year.

I pray for peace

and I cry.  And I hug my kiddos a little longer and my pups a little tighter.
