Soooo, what’s happening??

Hanging in there? 2020 is almost over and it sure has been a strange one.

Let’s see….Austin lives in a really cool apartment in downtown Columbus but his days can be long trying to teach 5th grade from home. He got a little friend to keep him company. He sends me lots of videos of kitties antics and while I am first and foremost a dog person I have to admit these cats are growing on me 🙂

Summer is sticking around and that is fine with me. The more time we can spend outside the better.

Eva and I went to get flu shots because I fear this winter could be a doozy.

Other big news around here is that back in June we bought a little beach cottage on Bald Head Island. We figured it was as good a time as any since the kids were remote learning and we were always there anyway.

So off we went again.

Oakley is so funny on the tram. He always sits on the back of the seat.

Little guy welcoming us on the side of the house.

Our cute little house

This is the cute outdoor shower 🙂

Watching the sun go down from the porch

And morning beach walks

Which leads to sandy sleepy dogs. We head back, make coffee and breakfast for the kids before we get them up for school.

We lit a candle on our front porch for a friends daughter that left Chapel Hill to attend UC Berkeley and has been missing for a few weeks now. She was last seen by the Golden Gate Bridge. It is just so heart breaking.

Impressive sea turtle

Guard dog lets us know when someone comes up into our circle. Our days here are slow. We get school/work done. We go to the market, we run the recycling over to the recycling center. One day as we were leaving Eva started screaming and I quickly pulled the golf cart over and she had a HUGE cockroach on her neck. I started screaming and swatting at it and finally sent it on it’s way and then we both couldn’t stop laughing. Cockroaches like the recycling and they hang out in the outdoor bins (we had ours on the back of our cart so it had easy access to the back of Eva’s neck lol.

Waiting at the post office for Cole to get the mail. On this particular day some guy with a Trump shirt went in refusing to wear a mask. The island has VERY strict rules in the post office and the market. Masks are required and they limit the number of people inside. His wife was weaving in and and out of all the golf carts and people there, no mask, talking to her dog at the top of her lungs. Screaming for attention. An older gentleman with a Veteran hat on went up to them and informed them that masks were required. They didn’t say anything. Just got in their cart and left. Fortunately we don’t see a whole lot of that on the island.

Picking up mail looks different these days

More sunsets

More walks

More frogs

We try to time the dogs evening walk with sunsets. Right now it’s right after dinner but will change soon.

The dogs dressed for the first Buckeye game.

Even cloudy nights are good nights

My view when I opened my eyes the next morning. Another frog lol.

Halloween was busy. We carved pumpkins, did golf cart trick or treating, went to Howl at the moon, and then watched the game. Andy gets into these face things every year….

Meanwhile back in Ohio, Austin ran a small private invite only marathon and got a PR. He ran 2:40:11.

We decided to head home to Chapel Hill for a bit because Eva had a doctors appointment we needed to check on things.

The colors are really starting to pop here in CH but the weather is still mid 70’s. No complaints here.

We are getting a new president and my neighborhood celebrated by lighting off fireworks.

Andy got a new solo stove so we tried it out on the deck and made smores.

Admiring the pretty tree colors.

Andy brought me flowers

Trying to be better about getting the dogs out everyday for a long walk while we are here.

And that is how things are going around here right now. 🙂 Getting excited to head back to the beach and for Austin to come down for Thanksgiving!
