Poi Dog Pondering

One of the coolest parts about going to college in Austin was the live music scene.  Music has always been such a huge part of my life and still is.  I can’t imagine a day without listening to music in some way.

When I was in college my fave local band was Poi Dog Pondering.  We went to see them every chance we got.  They always had such a happy vibe to them which made the shows so much fun.  Not to mention I had a HUGE crush on Frank, the lead singer.

One time after a show I was walking out with my friend Ethan (who a few weeks later introduced me to Andy) and Frank was sitting with his guitar on the sidewalk.  He looked our way and Ethan said, “want to meet him?”

Nope.  Having a crush on a musician is one thing, actually dating one is another- I saw first hand from my room mates that I didn’t want to go down that road when another Austin musician named Bob Schneider dated TWO of my roommates at the same time. This was a couple years before he started dating Sandra Bullock.

Of course we know she has craptacular taste in men.

And looking back it was probably silly to lump Quirky Frank in with Bad Boy Bob, but you never know! I did turn around and steal one more look at Frank on the sidewalk as he watched us walk away.

Anyway, shortly after that Poi Dog moved to Chicago, where I believe they still are.

Fast forward a few (or more) years to today and I was digging around looking for some fun music to take on our trip and stumbled on some old Poi Dog.

This video was made down on campus at UT and I just love it because that’s how going to school at UT was, people hanging out playing music and having fun.

I think this might be there first song I ever heard from them, Eva loves this one

My husband and I stumbled upon PDP while visiting San Francisco from Canada. We loved them so much, we chose their music for our wedding reception. We haven’t seen them live since, but I’m trying to surprise my hubby for his 40th (gasp!) birthday this year with a trip to see them.
I hear Austin is such a cool city, it’s definitely on my list to see.
    Enjoy your holiday!
