And now it’s quiet

All the planning, all the decoration, all of buying, wrapping, spending…. and then it’s done.

The Grandparents go home early because there is a snow storm threatening.

The baby goes to bed. My husband gets me Green Day rock band for Christmas so after a couple rounds the oldest and I settle in front of the fire on our computers while the two middle kids and hang down and play more video games with dad.

It always amazes me that when it is done, I am done. I want the tree down, the decorations down, everything clean and fresh. But I will leave the outdoor lights for a while, because I think they look so good with the snow.

I love these pictures from a few days ago, when Austin was trying to teach Eva to play the guitar.

This is the first year we have stayed put for Christmas and I realized that it may be time to cement some Christmas traditions around here. First of all we decided not to do a turkey dinner, and just made a Mexican dinner of tacos (black beans, corn, chicken, lettuce, tomatoes) homemade salsa, homemade queso, mexican casserole, burritos….
I mean why not, as my mother-in-law likes to say, “I’m a grown-up, I can eat ice cream for dinner if I want.” Well we can serve Mexican for Christmas if we want.

We bought a batch of our local bakeries iced sugar cookies- this indeed will need to be a tradition. They are so good.

I have pictures from Christmas, I am just too lazy to upload. So instead you get some that are a few days old

We have so much to cram into the next week. Andy wants to take the kids skiiing, they have OSU basketball tickets for Monday night, we have Blake’s room to re-do, the basement to clean, the tree to take down, the decorations to put away, workers back in the house for Austin’s bathroom remodel on Monday, blah blah blah. I am getting tired just thinking about it.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday!!

I am the same way with the decorations. Rarely has our tree made past December 27th. It will probably come down tomorrow in fact.
And we broke tradition, or at least partook in an Austin tradition of tamales for Christmas dinner. They were yummy!

I don’t blame you for getting tired just thinking about it. That is how I have felt for the last year. Shhh, don’t tell anyone, but I wanted to take my tree down today! I just moved in 7 weeks ago and I just don’t want a tree up in the room. I want a normal house. I am taking mine down tomorrow and working on the house some more. We have unpacked everything but there are a few things that need to be hung etc. I had barely gotten settled into the house in Cincy and it was starting to feel like home. Then we move again. I am trying not to judge this house to quickly because in the last year, I have found that it takes a while for a house to feel like your home.

Okay, I don’t know why I got off on that rambling mess. I guess it was just feeling alot of the same things that you are right now but for different reason. Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

On the other hand one year the kids threatened to hang Valentines on the tree if we didn’t take it down. We hold on to the tradition of Christmas starting now and lasting till Epiphany (January 6) – so I see many more nights with the tree lights blinking (okay, at least the bottom lights – don’t know what happened to the ones on the top) and a fire in the fireplace. No snow (yet) – thank goodness.

After church last night we went to LaFiesta! Mexican food at Christmas time is YUM!
We surprised our oldest boy with OSU basketball tx for Monday nights game too! He was SO SO excited.

Our tree will most likely come down tomorrow, mainly because I made Jim let us get the tree early this year, and soon I’m worried we will have more needles on the floor than on the tree.

And I love just hanging out at home on Christmas day. I have so many friends that go crazy traveling from house to house that I don’t envy them at all (except for the envy of having extended family around for the holidays). But it’s nice to let my kids stay in their jammies all day if they want!
