How to make beaded star ornaments

Do you have bored kids and need an idea to keep them busy?

Here is one that I do with my kids every year.

Ok first you need some beads.  I buy these beads in bulk when the bead show comes to town but I am sure you can find something similar at Michael’s or JoAnn’s.

Then you need some of these (willing or sometimes not so willing kiddos)

Please ignore my crappy low light pictures- I was too lazy to change the settings and stuck my camera on auto.

Ok next you need a board and some nails.  I used cookie cutters to draw the shapes I wanted- I started with a tree and a star, but now I only do stars.  I made Andy do this part for me as he is more accurate with where the nails should go.

Gets some craft wire- I like to use different colors to match the beads- but you can just use silver if that’s all you can find.

IMG_4130 Once you get the beads on the wires, bend them around the shapes- this is tricky and they often come out kind of wonky- but thats ok.

Tie a ribbon through the top and there you go!

I like to have them hang them in the front window

  1. Great craft. I have always loved doing crafts with my three girls and over the years we have done many! These are really cute and I think my college age girls would enjoy making them. Maybe we will give it a try. And by the way, I even love your “crappy low light” pictures!

  2. Beautiful! I need to make some of those. Now I wonder where I can find a snowy window to go with them (looking around in my San Diego home)!
